Fontina Green Bean Casserole
Green Bean Casserole is traditional in the fall, but this version will make you crave it all year!
Ingredients
1/3 cup chopped onion
2 tbsp flour
¼ tsp pepper
2 cans French-cut green beans; fresh beans also work if pre-cooked
3 strips bacon, chopped fine
2 tbsp butter
1 tsp salt
1 cup sour cream
¼ cup shredded Swiss cheese
¼ cup shredded Fontina cheese
Crispy onions for topping (optional)
Instructions
1. If using fresh green beans, start by blanching them. Heat a pot of water until it boils. Prepare a large bowl of ice water. Place the green beans in the boiling water and cook for 2-3 minutes. Remove the green beans and add them to the ice water bath. Set them aside.
2. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and grease a baking dish
3. Add the butter to a pan and melt.
4. Once the butter is melted, increase the heat to medium and add onion. Cook until lightly browned and fragrant.
5. Slowly add flour, stirring constantly. Then add salt and pepper.
Once fully combined, add sour cream and increase heat to medium-high heat.
6. Drain your green beans and add them to the pan. Mix until coated and the beans are warmed through.
7. Pour all ingredients into an 8x8 casserole dish.
8. Top with the cheese and bacon.
9. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until the cheese is gold and bubbly.
10. Remove and top with crispy onions. Serve warm or chilled.
